I believe Charlie & Syd are standing in front of the mansion that sat on the north-end of the Chaplin studio lot. This photo was taken before the studio was built. When Chaplin purchased the property in 1917, this house was included and he had originally thought about living there, instead his half-brothers Sydney Chaplin and Wheeler Dryden each lived in the house for a time, as well as Chaplin’s valet & secretary Toraichi Kono.
